Dog Parks in Bangalore 2026: Cubbon Park Timings & Rules

Finding a good place to walk your dog in Bangalore shouldn't be this hard. Yet most dog parents end up doing the same society loop every day — partly because nobody tells you which parks actually allow dogs, which ones let them off-leash, and what the rules are once you get there.

Most "dog-friendly parks in Bengaluru" lists online repeat the same claims without checking them. So we rebuilt this guide from scratch, using the Horticulture Department's Cubbon Park rules, news reports on each park, and the parks' own published details. Where we couldn't confirm something, we say so.

1. Cubbon Park — Sunday Dog Area & Leashed Walks

Cubbon Park is the first place every Bengaluru dog parent hears about, and for good reason. On Sunday mornings, a fenced dog area opposite the State Central Library becomes the city's biggest dog meet-up, with dogs playing off-leash while their humans catch up. The easiest way in is through the gates near the Matsya Darshini aquarium.

The rest of the week — and everywhere outside that fenced area on Sundays — Cubbon Park is a leashed park. Its 300 acres of shaded paths still make it one of the best walks in the city.

Cubbon Park dog rules

The Department of Horticulture issued these guidelines after the Karnataka High Court raised concerns about dogs in the park (December 2021):

• Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
• Rabies vaccination is mandatory. Carry the record — staff can ask to see it.
• Carry a scoop and dispose of waste in the bins.
• Don't feed your dog inside the park.
• You are liable for any bite or injury your dog causes.
• The guidelines bar "ferocious and larger breed dogs". The rule doesn't define which breeds count, so if you have a large dog, expect questions at the gate and keep your vaccination record handy.
• Sterilisation is advised.

In June 2022, the Horticulture Department proposed banning pet dogs from Cubbon Park altogether. It put the ban on hold after protests from pet parents. Following the rules above is the best way to keep the park open to dogs.

2. Domlur Dog Park

One of Bengaluru's best dog-park stories. Domlur residents turned a former garbage dump into a dedicated dog park, and the civic body later moved to formalise it. It's one of the few genuinely off-leash public spaces in the city.

Rules set by the residents:

• No aggressive dogs.
• Only fully vaccinated dogs — puppies who haven't finished their vaccine course should wait.
• Use the poop pit provided for dog waste.

3. Sadashivanagar Dog Area

A small, triangular area inside a neighbourhood park, set aside for dogs to run and play off-leash. It's quieter and much smaller than Cubbon Park, which makes it a good first step for shy dogs, senior dogs, or puppies learning to play with others.

4. Petboro Dog Park — Whitefield (Private, Paid)

If you're in East Bengaluru and want a fenced, off-leash space with agility equipment, this is the closest purpose-built option. It sits inside the premises of Petboro, a pet boarding facility, so it's a controlled environment rather than a public park.

5. DogPark at the Elephant Pond — Bannerghatta Road (Private)

Described as Bangalore's first private off-leash dog park: a 10-acre property with a dedicated 1-acre off-leash area, a natural pond, separate zones for small and large dogs, and walking trails. It also hosts pet parties and training sessions.

It's a weekend outing, not a daily walk, but for a dog who loves water and space, it's worth the drive.

6. Kaikondrahalli Lake — Sarjapur Road (Leashed)

One of Bengaluru's best-restored urban lakes, and the go-to walk for dog parents on the Sarjapur Road and HSR Layout side of the city. After the lake was fenced, a separate area was marked for pets so the main walking path stays clean for everyone.

The walk around the lake is flat, green and full of birdlife, which means plenty of sniffing. Keep your dog on a short leash near the water and the bird areas.

• Lalbagh Botanical Garden — run by the Horticulture Department, and it has restricted pets in the past. We couldn't confirm the current rule, so check with the garden before taking your dog.
• Hennur Bamboo Forest and other informal green spaces — often shared on social media as dog-friendly, but there are no official rules or facilities. Keep your dog leashed, and watch for ticks and other animals.

What to Carry on Every Park Visit
